Old School Style Scrapbooking vs. Project Life

For those of you that utilize Project Life or at least know the concept and how it works, I need your input/advice. I started my latest scrapbook on Saturday. I have been really excited about it for quite awhile. It is from the trip I took to Cabo San Lucas for my dear friend Megan's wedding to her high school sweetheart Justin. The whole trip was pretty awesome and I am finally set to document it - old school scrapbook style. All of my pictures are sorted by date and event so I am ready to go. Bur herein lies my dilemma. I did the first two page layout and I am really just not feeling it. Months ago, I bought this package of paper that I just knew was going to be perfect for this project, now that I have started using it, I am just not so sure. Something is pulling me to try to do the whole album PL style. Maybe still use the paper in small doses here and there, but not as originally planned. What are your thoughts on doing an entire trip album PL style as opposed to documenting everyday life? Is it cheating - am I taking the easy way out? Will I be as happy with this album when it is complete as I am with the traditional books that I have done? I would love to know what you think or if you have any ideas. At this point I have only completed two layouts so I am still on the fence...I could go either way. I am attending an all day crop on the 29th, so I have to have a clear direction by then - let me know what you think! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I"m still doing old school style scrapbooks but that's only until I finish up with my supplies. I have done trip albums in a similar style to PL albums and I love them. I think you should do whatever makes you happy and what you're into. You will finish it sooner if you're enjoying it! I for one, can't wait to see that album!!

  2. I think it is totally ok to do it PL style!
And truthfully, on this Florida album I am working on it is a mix of regular layouts and PL pages. I am doing kind of title pages for each section and then mixing in the PL protectors. It's fun and kind of breaking it up a bit. I also feel I can fit more photos in.

  3. If you're not quite feeling it, it may not be enjoyable to do this one old school style. You could do a combo like Heather and Mary Jo suggested, or primarily project life and when you run across those photos that just scream for their own layout, because we all have them, the incorporate it in the album old school style.

  4. NOT the easy way out!

I am doing our honeymoon album PL style. I have paper that is perfect for the honeymoon, and I am using it cut into 3x4 and 4x6 pieces with the PL style.

But, that's what I'm feeling right now. Its the style I'm enjoying.

Of course, I bought some extra paper, in case I want to make a traditional layout or two :)

  5. I am one to create the way I enjoy to. If you aren't enjoying the process, I would say swtich it up and do a bit of each style. I have not done any PL layouts. I like the idea of them, but haven't sat down to try them. They look neat and fresh from what i have seen. Winnie#93

  6. I can not give any advice on this particular subject because i have no idea what y'all are talking about. LOL
I would say just go with your gut though and what you're feeling. You're crazy talented so no matter what you do its going to be terrific.

  7. I tried PL two years in a row and made it to Feb both years before crashing and burning. That being said, I love the idea of a PL style album for a weekend trip. I'm actually thinking about using a SNAP album to scrapbook our vacay from last year. The thought of all of those 12 x 12 layouts is daunting. A mini-album seems much more do-able. What about trying one of the Becky Higgins mini albums and the paper you already have to do a sorts of compromised PL style album?

  8. Can't you mix it up and do some of both as the mood takes you each time you get to do some? I love the PL format, fresh, minimal and really telling it..but I also hate it. It's not my style, and I always thinkI'd end up contriving the pics to be just the best bits. And my scrapping is more than that for sure. Having said that, I haven't done more than a handful of 'set project' albums..and they've all been minis/ I scrapbook LOs based entirely on my liking of the phot oat the time, my albums are mixed and no single tri or party or wedding is in any single album. Does that set your teeth on edge?!!

  9. Do what makes you happy! I'm getting ready to put together a mini PL book for a trip Bill & I took in March. I think they're the perfect size for a short trip.

  10. Maybe you could mix the styles up a bit? Or if you can't, just choose the style in which you'll be able to showcase the beauty surrounding your life more. That's what matters in the end, doesn't it? Good luck on your scapbook project, and I hope to read some of the updates later.
